Costa contacted me through my ad in Gumtree and was wanting some photos for his upcoming album. I was excited as it would a chance to test out my home studio – one speedlight, softbox, reflector and a couple of bike LED lights.
Costa was after some moody black and white shots and had sent some examples of what he would like. It was very fashion/modern orientated and was something that would be relatively easy to replicate. It would be mainly due to the posing, which can be either flat/straight on, or dynamic and masculine.
I was prepared with ways to shape a male model, and suggested a few poses to Costa who then took it all to a whole new level!
He gave me countless poses, not all of them worked, but about 95% of them did and we were able to get many great looks.
Costa was really positive and we had a lot in common with our musical taste and talked on the same level which was great. This is not only great for the connection, but to be able to talk “shop” to another like-minded person is awesome and makes everyone feel relaxed and comfortable!
I shot in the Acros film simulation on my Fujifilm X100f to get the look he was after and it was great to see an almost finished product straight out of camera!
My speedlight did fail a couple of times because it overheated with the amount of photos I was taking, but by the time the batteries went flat, we had everything we needed. I am wanting to invest in a more robust lighting system, which will help immensely and I won’t have to worry about power ever again!
Costa is super happy with the results and I wish him all the success for his new album! If his music is as good as the photos, it’ll be a hit for sure! 🙂 hahaha!
