My great auntie Doff was kind enough to be a portrait subject for a photography job I was applying for. It was for an aged care home and I needed an elderly person to take photos for my portfolio.
I organised with my family to meet at 3 and needed 4 generations of family to show in one photo. My mum, sister and her daughter were dressed and ready to go.
I had my softbox set up camera left and at a 45 degree angle. I had a black backdrop and used the natural light from the window to use as a secondary light source. It worked out well as it added an extra dimension to the lighting… and it was free!
After making sure I had the look I wanted, I started snapping away. I realise that having a toy at hand is great to distract kids and get them looking in the right spot. It also gets them to laugh which makes for beautiful happy photos!
In the end I got some nice looking shots that captured auntie Doff perfectly. And if you know her, you will see her character and say, that’s her!
